Kerang stormwater improvements continue

Efforts to improve Kerang’s urban stormwater drainage system are continuing, with work to occur this week to improve a recently acquired drain before it is connected to the network.
Work will occur from Thursday, 30 April to remove silt and sediment from the bottom of a drain located adjacent to the Murray Valley Highway between Collins Road and Leng Street, with an existing culvert in the location to be extended.
The works are a part of Gannawarra Shire Council’s extensive efforts to improve Kerang’s urban stormwater network, which is reliant on connections to the Loddon River to move water out of the town.
“Following flash flooding and a power outage that impacted Kerang in December 2023 and January 2024, Council has worked with residents to identify ways to improve our stormwater network, especially in the southern half of the town where there are fewer outlets to the Loddon River compared to the northern part of the town,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“Bringing this drain to an operational standard will benefit residents during future intense rain events, which will reduce the network’s reliance on outlets to the Loddon River located in the northern half of the town.”
Motorists are advised that traffic delays will be in place whilst these works occur, and are encouraged to factor these delays into their travel plans.
“Council thanks residents and motorists for their understanding as these important works occur,” Mr Rollinson said.
