Keeping Animals on your Property
The opportunity to keep animals is one of the many pleasures often enjoyed in a rural lifestyle.
However, the keeping of animals must be balanced with the right to quiet enjoyment of the environment by individuals and the community generally and especially our closest neighbours
Division 2, Section 21, part Community Amenity Local Law 2023 states the following in relation to the keeping of animals on properties within the Gannawarra Shire:
"An owner or occupier of private land must not, without a permit, keep or allow to be kept on any one parcel of land, any more then the number for each type of animal listed in the table below:"
How to apply for a Keeping of Animals permit
If you have more animals on your property than what is listed in the table above, you are required to apply for a Keeping of Animals permit. To complete this form, visit the Forms page of our website and click on the Pets and Animals heading.
