Work is occurring throughout the Gannawarra to upgrade Gannawarra Shire Council-managed roads, drains and other infrastructure to reduce the risk of disruptions to services and connections during future flood-related events.

Made possible thanks to $1 million from the Federal and State governments under the Disaster Flood Recovery Arrangements Betterment Fund, new or additional culverts, headwalls or floodways have been installed at three locations to reduce the severity and duration of inundation during future flood events.

“Keeping residents connected to their communities and services is important, especially during times of natural emergencies, such as floods,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Thanks to these works, the need for Council to undertake repairs to these six sites following future floods will be reduced.”

As part of the works, improvements have been completed throughout April to Kerang-Lalbert Road, Beauchamp and Connelly Road, Dingwall. These works follow on from the installation of flood mitigating infrastructure at Knight Road, Quambatook last year, which was completed as part of the Sustainable Recreation Water for Quambatook project.

Work will continue during the coming weeks, with Gilmore Lane, Tragowel to be closed from Tuesday, 28 April to Friday, 15 May where the road crosses the Bannagher Creek for the installation of a new culvert.

The project will also support improvements to Kenny Road, Kerang East and Suttie Road, Quambatook, with updates regarding these flood betterment works to be provided via Council’s website, Gannawarra News, Gannawarra Connect and Council’s Facebook page.

“Council thanks the State and Federal governments for this funding and looks forward to completing these improvements to support our communities impacted by flood events.” Mr Rollinson said.
