All in for National Reconciliation Week 2026

Residents from across the Gannawarra will unite later this month to recognise and celebrate National Reconciliation Week, with a morning of activities planned in Kerang.
Gannawarra Shire Council has partnered with the Kerang Elders and Leaders Group, Mallee District Aboriginal Services and Northern District Community Health to deliver the event on Wednesday, 27 May.
The program will feature the much‑anticipated annual Reconciliation Walk through the streets of Kerang, culminating in a community gathering at The Glasshouse.
“Kerang is renowned for its National Reconciliation Week celebrations, which enables residents to learn more about First Nations histories and cultures, and to build relationships and respect as we continue our journey towards reconciliation,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“This year’s theme for National Reconciliation Week, which runs from 27 May to 3 June, is All In, which is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.”
Proceedings will begin at 10am with a flag raising ceremony outside the Kerang Council Building in Victoria Street, before community members and local leaders come together for the Reconciliation Walk to The Glasshouse.
From 10.25am, The Glasshouse will host a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country, followed by storytelling, cultural sharing activities, and the announcement of winners from the National Reconciliation Week poster colouring competition.
Following the formal proceedings, attendees are invited to enjoy a free morning tea. Activities will continue with schools participating in National Simultaneous Storytime celebrations and a Kerang Soccer Club clinic from 11.30am.
Gannawarra’s National Reconciliation Week celebrations are proudly supported by Council, the Kerang Elders and Leaders Group, Northern District Community Health, Mallee District Aboriginal Service, Kerang District Health, Cohuna District Hospital, and Victoria Police.
“Council and our partners acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land within the Gannawarra Shire, the Barapa Barapa, Wamba Wamba, and Yorta Yorta peoples, and invite the wider community to join us in walking and celebrating First Nations history and culture together as part of this year’s Reconciliation Week celebrations,” Mr Rollinson said.
