The Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools will be the place for residents wanting to keep fit this summer.

Gannawarra Shire Council, which manages both facilities, is anticipating an influx of visitors during the next two months thanks to extended opening hours, school holidays and the implementation of key fitness programs.

“Swimming is not just a life skill, it is a great way to keep active during our warmer months,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“As we have seen so far this season, families are already taking their children to our pools not just to keep cool but to also instil good water safety habits.”

Visitors to both sites will benefit from extended opening hours, which come into effect from Monday. As part of these arrangements, the Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools will be open during the hours listed below on days the Bureau of Meteorology website’s forecast temperature for Kerang is 24 degrees Celsius or higher:

  • Monday, 1 December to Friday, 19 December: Open 3pm-7pm weekdays and 11am-7pm weekends.
  • Saturday, 20 December to Saturday, 31 January: Open 11am-7pm daily.
  • Sunday, 1 February to Saturday, 28 February: Open 3pm-7pm weekdays and 11am-7pm weekends.
  • Sunday, 1 March to Monday, 9 March: Open 3pm-7pm daily.

Both swimming pools will also be open 12 noon-7pm on Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Australia Day and the Labour Day public holiday, but closed on Christmas Day.

Any changes to opening times, including during instances of inclement weather, will be publicised via Council’s Facebook page.

The start of summer also marks the beginning of the Morning Laps program, which will be operating at the Cohuna Swimming Pool between 6am-8am Tuesdays and Thursday, and 8am-10am Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 December-28 February. Lap lanes will be available at the Kerang Swimming Pool during regular opening hours.

Popular water aerobics programs will also occur at both sites during the season, with information regarding session times and costs available at each location.

“Council thanks our dedicated group of lifeguards and local water aerobics instructors to enable both programs to occur, providing additional opportunities for visitor to both sites to keep active,” Mr Rollinson said.

Season passes for both locations are available to purchase from the Cohuna and Kerang Customer Service Centres, or from either pool.
