More than 100 children are benefiting from the resumption of a popular Gannawarra Shire Council-organised swimming program.

Classes associated with the Warra Waders swimming program resumed two weeks ago at the Kerang Exercise Pool, enabling children aged from six months to eight years of age to become independent in the water or hone their swimming skills.

Run by qualified and experienced AUSTSWIM or Swim Australia trained Swim Instructors, the popular program helps develop children’s aquatic education skills and knowledge by having fun, building confidence and learning lifelong skills.

“Council thanks our dedicated team of lifeguards and swimming instructors for their commitment to this program, which enabled the first classes for this year to begin in mid-July,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“The Warra Waders program provides benefits for children, no matter their age. Our youngest participants benefit from time with their parents or guardians in the water, whilst sessions enable our oldest participants to hone their swimming skills in readiness for the resumption of the outdoor swimming pool season in mid-November.”

Meanwhile, applications are currently open for people who would like to join Council’s team of Outdoor Pool Lifeguards for the 2025/26 swimming pool season.

Applications are open to anyone aged 16 years and over, with Life Saving Victoria Lifeguard training, first aid training and accreditation provided free of charge. For more information or to apply, please visit www.gsc.vic.gov.au/jobs
