Gannawarra Shire Council’s Warra Waders Learn to Swim Program has recorded record enrolment levels throughout Term 1, 2022.
Held at the Kerang Exercise Pool, the program has enabled more than 100 children aged between six months and six years of age to learn water confidence skills.
Run by qualified and experienced AUSTSWIM or Swim Australia trained Swim Instructors, the Warra Waders program helps develop children’s aquatic education skills and knowledge by having fun, building confidence and learning lifelong skills.
“Council congratulates all participants that have been involved with the Warra Waders program throughout Term 1,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“It is fantastic to see this popular program continuing to grow, with 46 per cent of participants travelling at least 15 minutes by car to access this important year-round service. This includes participants travelling from townships such as Boort, Barham and Cohuna.
“Warra Waders is licensed to conduct the Royal Life Saving Society’s Swim and Survive Program, a national swimming and water safety initiative that aims to prevent drowning and increase the participation in safe aquatic activity.”
As Term 1 comes to an end, Term 2 expression of interest period is now open for new families wanting to enrol their child, which can be done by contacting Council on (03) 5450 9333.
“Parents and guardians interested in enrolling their child in learn to swim lessons locally are encouraged to consider the Warra Waders program and learn these valuable skills within the Gannawarra,” Mr O’Reilly said.
