Nominations are open for Gannawarra Shire Council’s 2020 Australia Day Awards.

Presented annually as part of Australia Day celebrations, the awards recognise the contribution residents make to their communities.

“There are many residents throughout the Gannawarra who devote their time to make their community a better place for all,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Council’s Australia Day Awards program enables these people to receive the recognition they deserve.

“Previous winners have all demonstrated a commitment to the groups and organisations they are a part of. The 2019 Citizen of the Year, Dick Walters has served his community for more than 70 years, whilst the Young Citizen of the Year, Kaila Wilson is involved in a number of youth leadership initiatives.”

Nominations are sought for the following award categories:

  • Citizen of the Year; and
  • Young Citizen of the Year (for residents aged 15-24 years of age on Sunday, 26 January 2020).

“I encourage residents to nominate their community’s quiet achievers for these prestigious accolades,” Mayor Learmonth said.

Nomination forms are available online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/Australia_Day_Awards, with award winners to be announced during Australia Day celebrations occurring throughout the Gannawarra.

Nominations close at 9am on Monday, 2 December 2019.
