Vehicles equipped with laser measurement devices and cameras will take to the Gannawarra’s roads from Thursday, 21 September as part of efforts to improve Council’s road and footpath network.

Teams from asset inspection contractor, Infrastructure Management Group will traverse Council’s 84-kilometre footpath network and 1,478-kilometre road network during late September and early October to determine the condition of sealed roads, unsealed roads and footpaths in the municipality.

“Monitoring our road and footpath network is an important task, as our residents use these paths and roads every day to access their homes and communities,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“The information provided from these inspections will enable to Council to better manage our footpath and road networks, which will enable us to develop more effective maintenance and renewal strategies to improve connectivity, mobility and safety.”

Whilst the inspections are occurring, vehicles and quad bikes fitted with laser measurement devices and cameras will travel on local roads and footpaths. Vehicles travelling to assess sealed and unsealed roads will travel at normal traffic speeds, whilst quad bikes will travel at a brisk walking pace.

“All cameras connected to these vehicles will be focused on the road or footpath they are travelling on, with no imaging of commercial, residential, private properties or structures to be captured,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Council thanks residents and motorists for their understanding whilst these inspections are completed.”

Anyone who has questions about these inspections is encouraged to contact Council on (03) 5450 9333.
