Quambatook Weir improvements continue

Visitors to the Quambatook Weir are benefiting from improvements made possible by Gannawarra Shire Council and the Victorian Government.
Work has occurred during the past few months as part of the $2.4 million project, supported by more than $2 million from Regional Development Victoria.
The project is expected to create 15 jobs during construction and help grow and diversify the local economy by drawing more visitors and making the town a more attractive home for regional workers.
“Quambatook residents and visitors know the beauty of Quambatook Weir, especially when there is water flowing down the Avoca River, and these works will ensure this precinct is an aquatic oasis for residents and visitors alike,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
Improvements to the Quambatook Weir precinct were recently completed, including the construction of a launch area for boats, kayaks and canoes, the installation picnic facilities and the development of a fire pit area.

“These improvements will enable visitors to the weir to relax by the water, whether it is enjoying a swim in the river, sharing a meal or socialising around a warm fire,” Mr Rollinson said.
Work continues to complete the remaining parts of the project, including creating new tracks and trails that will link the weir to the Quambatook township. As part of these works, a pedestrian bridge spanning the Avoca River near River Street is being installed.
“Council looks forward to the completion of these works in time for residents and visitors to enjoy as our weather warms up,” Mr Rollinson said.
