Pedestrians and cyclists travelling between the Koondrook central business district and Koondrook Primary School will benefit from the construction of a new shared pathway.

Work will occur later this year to construct a 630-metre shared cycle-pedestrian path between Apex Park and Koondrook Primary School after Gannawarra Shire Council received $145,000 from the Victoria Government’s Local Transport Solutions Program to support the project.

“Council thanks the Victorian Government for this funding, which will provide a much-needed pedestrian and cycling connection between Koondrook Primary School and the town’s central business district, with the current informal route through Arbuthnot Sawmill not safe or appropriate for public pedestrian use,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“This new path will enable users to travel safely adjacent to the Murray River and provides tourists with an improved connection to the Koondrook Barham Redgum Statue Walk.

“These works also complement efforts that occurred last year to seal Murray Parade between Grigg and Punt roads, which have provided residents and visitors with an additional safe route between the Koondrook central business district and the Murray River.”

Council will provide updates regarding the construction of the path via its website, Facebook page and it Gannawarra News and Gannawarra Connect publications.
