Murrabit Netball Club players will enter the 2022 Golden Rivers Football Netball League season with new facilities following the completion of a major project at the Murrabit Recreation Reserve.
The $328,000 project, supported by a $219,200 contribution from the State Government’s Female Friendly Facilities program, $88,500 from Gannawarra Shire Council and support from the Murrabit Football Netball Club including painting of the facility, will see the Blues’ players benefit from a new netball change room, with the former home team rooms renovated to accommodate visiting sides
The redevelopment, located on the northern side of the Murrabit Recreation Reserve complex, also includes new umpires rooms, an accessible bathroom and first aid room.
“The new netball change rooms are a magnificent addition to our facilities. It’s been a long time coming, but we are ready to open our doors for the 2022 season,” Murrabit Football Netball Club football president, Neil Teasdale said.
“The change room’s location next to the complex, has enabled the expansion of the venue’s verandah area to now span the wing of the football oval, which will provide plenty of shelter for spectators during the season and at finals time.
“Thank you to Sport and Recreation Victoria, Gannawarra Shire Council and the Murrabit Recreation Reserve Committee for their contribution to this important project, as well as to Membreys Master Builders for completing the project.”
The Gannawarra Shire Council-managed project builds on the upgrade of female friendly facilities completed during the past three years at the Macorna Recreation Reserve and Riverside Park, Kerang.
“Council’s support of the Murrabit Netball Change Room Redevelopment is part of our commitment to increase the number of females within the Gannawarra participating in sport, as outlined in our Sport and Recreation Strategy 2019-2029,” Acting Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“Council thanks the State Government for its continued support and looks forward to seeing current and future netballers benefit from the redevelopment for many years to come.”
