New Councillors declared

Four new Councillors and three returning Councillors make up the Gannawarra Shire Council following Local Government elections held this month.
The results of the election were announced on the steps of the Council Chambers at midday today by Victorian Electoral Commission Returning Officer Mardi Messer.
The new Gannawarra Shire Councillors will be officially sworn in and the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor at a Special Meeting to be held on Friday in Kerang at 5.30pm.
Council Chief Executive Officer Eric Braslis says it’s an exciting time for Gannawarra Shire Council.
“It is pleasing to see a gender-diverse Council with many and varied community and professional backgrounds representing their wards.”
“With the election of a new Council brings new opportunities and challenges and we look forward to working together with the new Councillors over the next four years.”
After one of the most tightly contested elections seen recently, former Mayor Neville Goulding and former Murray Ward Councillor Oscar Aertssen were not re-elected to Council.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Neville and Oscar for their service to Gannawarra Shire Council and wish them well for the future,” Mr Braslis said.
Retiring Councillors Keith den Houting and Neil Gannon were farewelled at the Ordinary Council Meeting in October and both reflected on their time in Council fondly.
