National Reconciliation Week celebrations in the Gannawarra Shire came early on Sunday, 21 May when the Nancy Bates Trio performed at the Murrabit Hall.

Creative Gannawarra, in conjunction with The Ladies of Murrabit Art and Culture Group, supported this special event, which saw attendees enjoy an afternoon of entertainment – highlighted by the performance from Nancy Bates, Lainie Jamieson and Flik Freeman.

“It was an honour to have Nancy and her talented trio in the Gannawarra, with the audience loving the show and becoming emotional with Nancy’s stories,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Gannawarra Shire is renowned in the creative industry for attracting entertaining performers to the area, and it was great to be able to bring the excitement our Creative Gannawarra program attracts to our smaller communities, such as Murrabit.

“The timing of the performance was ideal, with the event occurring one week after Mother’s Day and six days prior to National Reconciliation Week.”

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a song writing workshop, which enabled participants to write a song inspired by the 2023 National Reconciliation Week theme, Be a Voice for Generations, which Nancy and the group performed before Nancy’s concert.

The performances were followed by a delicious afternoon tea organised by The Ladies of Murrabit Art and Craft Group.

Creative Gannawarra’s 2023 program will wrap up on Friday, 6 October with Petit Circus’s family show, Bon Appetit occurring at the Kerang Basketball Stadium. Details regarding performance times and how to book tickets will be promoted via Council’s website, Gannawarra News, Gannawarra Connect, online at the Creative Gannawarra Facebook page and at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/CreativeGannawarra closer to the date.
