Lighting up the Gannawarra for National Volunteer Week
Published on 15 May 2025
Two of the Gannawarra’s iconic landmarks will be illuminated with red lighting from Monday, 19 May to Sunday, 25 May as part of National Volunteer Week celebrations.
Red lighting will illuminate Cohuna’s Garden Park and the Kerang Council Building throughout the weeklong celebrations, to recognise the role volunteers play nationally to support communities large and small.
“Volunteers continue to be the lifeblood of our rural communities,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“Volunteers involved in the many community groups and organisations across Gannawarra offer their time, skills and compassion to create a stronger, more connected society,”
“They support the delivery of essential services, foster social connections, and enrich the lives of others and our small communities continue to thrive because of the tireless efforts of volunteers who create lasting, positive change.”
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2025 is Connecting Communities, which acknowledges the spirit of connection and the impact volunteers have in building inclusive and thriving communities.
“Council is proud to be part of the Light Up Your Landmarks for National Volunteer Week 2025 and thanks all residents who continue to generously volunteer their time to ensure that Gannawarra remains a vibrant and safe place to live,” Mr Rollinson said.
Northern District Community Health will also be celebrating National Volunteer Week by hosting morning teas at its Cohuna and Kerang offices. All volunteers are invited to these events, occurring at its 33 King Edward Street, Cohuna office on Monday, 19 May from 10am, and 24 Fitzroy Street, Kerang on Tuesday, 20 May from 10am.
