Gannawarra Shire families are benefiting from the municipality’s newest early childhood education centre, which officially opened yesterday.
Parliamentary Secretary for Children, Nathan Lambert MP joined Gannawarra Shire Councillors and staff to celebrate the opening of the Kerang South Kindergarten.
Located on the ground of Kerang South Primary School, the site is the fifth location to host Council-managed early education programs and has complemented the rollout of the State Government’s Pre-Prep program.
“The opening of the Kerang South Kindergarten is a major step in Council’s efforts to provide the best start for our youngest residents,” Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Wade Williams said.
“Children are already benefiting from the rollout of the play-based Pre-Prep program, which will improve children’s learning and development outcomes, and builds on the three-year-old kindergarten program that Council runs at its facilities at Cohuna, Kerang, Koondrook and Leitchville.”

Constructed offsite, the 66-place modular building features modern facilities and can cater for both three-year-old kindergarten and Pre-Prep programs.
“This new facility brings our local early learning environment in line with those found in metropolitan areas, offering modern, high-quality spaces that support the best outcomes for children, families, and educators,” Mayor Garner Smith said.
“We are grateful to the State Government for their support, including the delivery of this facility and also through the Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment Grant, which has helped Council fit out this fantastic new building with everything needed to create a welcoming and engaging learning space.
“Thank you to everyone who played a role in making this vision a reality, particularly our dedicated educators. Your commitment to our children’s future is truly appreciated.”
