Kerang CBD Redevelopment - Stage 3 revised designs released

Improvements along Victoria Street, Kerang between Wellington and Victoria streets will occur during 2023 following the finalisation of designs for Stage 3 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment.

The $2.136 million project, fully funded thanks to the third round of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, builds on work previously undertaken to improve Kerang’s central business district.

“Residents and visitors have benefited from the redevelopment of Victoria Square and improvements completed along Scoresby Street between Fitzroy and Victoria streets,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Once completed, this project will revitalise the Kerang CBD into a vibrant place that is attractive and functional to locals and visitors alike.”

Residents were able to comment on the proposed design during August 2022, with feedback received incorporated into the final design.

This feedback has led to the retention of rose bushes around the Karlie McDonald Memorial Clock at the intersection of Wellington and Victoria streets, with improved lighting to enhance this iconic memorial.

Other features of the final design include:

• The remodelling of kerbing along the eastern section of Victoria Street between Scoresby Street and Victoria Square. These works, which will reduce the footpath’s steep variant, will provide easier access for shoppers accessing businesses along this section of road;
• Replacing existing paved surfaces along Victoria Street to tie this area in with recently completed improvements along Scoresby Street;
• Installing new street furniture and trees; and
• Creating new outdoor dining areas for hospitality businesses.

“Council thanks all who provided feedback regarding this important project and looks forward to the start of construction after Easter,” Mr Rollinson said.
