Works to redevelop Scoresby Street, Kerang between Fitzroy and Victoria streets are nearing the construction stage following the revision of the project’s design after secondary community feedback.

Stage 2 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment, which forms part of Gannawarra Shire Council’s 2021/2022 Proposed Budget, builds on work undertaken to connect the Kerang central business district to the Kerang Railway Station, Victoria Square and Kerang Open Space Precinct.

“These improvements to the Scoresby Street section of Kerang’s central business district aim to provide spaces where residents and visitors can socialise and explore what Kerang has to offer,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“These works, which are scheduled for completion by the end of the year, will tie in with improvements recently completed along Scoresby Street between Albert and Boundary streets.”

Following discussions with business owners, the revised design features one major change – the retention of the grassed area outside the Royal Hotel on the corner of Scoresby and Victoria streets.

“This space has become a popular location for outdoor dining during the past six months and following extensive engagement, Council looks forward to enhancing this area with the installation of timber bollards and screens between the grassed area and road,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Other key features, including dedicated accessible outdoor eating areas outside Gray’s Bakery, bench seating and the planting of extra trees along Scoresby Street, feature in the revised design.”

The project is currently out for tender until 5pm Tuesday, 25 May, with information available at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/tenders

“Council looks forward to the commencement of these works and the benefits this project will give to the Gannawarra now and into the future,” Mr O’Reilly said.

Council will keep residents updated on the Kerang CBD Redevelopment – Stage 2 via its website, Facebook page, Gannawarra News and Gannawarra Connect.

The $1.317 million Kerang CBD Redevelopment – Stage 2 is funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
