Visitors to Atkinson Park, Kerang are benefiting from the construction of the Kerang All Abilities Play Space and the region’s first Changing Places facility, which were both officially opened on 27 May 2023.

Gannawarra Shire Council’s Mayor Charlie Gillingham and fellow Councillors officially opened the $1.1 million project, supported by a $1 million contribution from the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program, during the May edition of the Kerang Community Market.

“It was great to see Kerang residents and visitors take time out of their busy weekend schedules to celebrate the opening of these two important facilities,” Mayor Gillingham said.

“The community have embraced these projects since their completion in October 2022, and the opening provided the opportunity to thank the State Government for supporting the project and all tradespeople and businesses who helped with these improvements.”

The highlight of the project was the construction of the Gannawarra’s third all abilities play space, which features in-ground trampolines, log scramble area, water play areas and a wheelchair accessible sway fun swing.

Council also worked with the Kerang Landcare Group to identify native vegetation that would enhance this space and provide a sensory experience for visitors

“Atkinson Park was already a popular place to gather, with these works now providing greater opportunities for families to get together and make lasting memories,” Mayor Gillingham said.

“Council thanks the State Government for supporting these improvements, which will benefit Kerang for many years.”
