Gannawarra Shire residents are encouraged to consider applying to join the committee responsible for overseeing emergency management across the municipality.

The Gannawarra Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee is looking to fill its community member vacancy, with the successful applicant to provide local representation to the group.

“The Gannawarra Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee consists of representatives from various emergency management agencies, such as Victoria Police, Country Fire Authority, Ambulance Victoria, Fire Rescue Victoria, VICSES, Forest Fire Management Victoria, Agriculture Victoria, Department of Health, Department Families, Fairness and Housing, Red Cross and Council,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Being a community representative on the Gannawarra Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee is an important role, as you will provide local knowledge to assist these agencies regarding emergency management planning.”

Group members will be required to attend meetings, which will be held every three months in Kerang, provide constructive input and engage positively with other group members.

“Applicants need to understand Victorian emergency management arrangements, have strong community links and be able to attend meetings,” Mr Rollinson said.

Residents interested in applying to join the Gannawarra Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee can submit an expression of interest by emailing council@gsc.vic.gov.au or writing to PO Box 287, Kerang VIC 3579 before 5pm Friday, 20 June. Applications should include your name and contact details, and a brief overview of your interest or experience relating to emergency management or community engagement.
