How do you dispose of your waste?

Gannawarra Shire Council is asking residents how they are currently disposing or recycling their household waste as part of efforts to ensure future services meet residents’ needs.
All properties within the municipality will soon receive a copy of the Residential Kerbside Reform Survey in their letterbox, which Council has developed as part of its review of current waste management services and the rollout of the State Government’s kerbside waste collection reforms.
The 10-minute survey focuses on Council’s current kerbside waste collection services, which include weekly collection of red lid general rubbish bins and fortnightly collection of yellow lid mixed recycling bins across the municipality, and a fortnightly opt-in green waste collection service for Cohuna, Kerang and Koondrook properties.
“Providing a kerbside waste collection service is one of the many responsibilities of local government, which is undertaken across the Gannawarra via our contractor, Veolia,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson.
“The Residential Kerbside Reform Survey is the largest waste-related community engagement campaign of its kind Council has conducted, and all feedback received will assist with the planning of future services.”
The survey also enables residents to outline their preferences regarding how Council may implement changes as part of the rollout of the four-stream waste and recycling system across the Victoria, which includes providing a purple-lidded glass recycling bin and a green-lidded food organics and garden organics (FOGO) bin for all properties.
“At this time Council has not committed to the introduction of a standalone kerbside glass recycling service as part of the State Government’s kerbside waste collection reforms, with this survey to assist in investigating alternative options, such as drop-off sites, recovery partnerships and other non-kerbside options,” Mr Rollinson said.
Residents who complete and return the survey by Thursday, 26 March will also be in the running to win one of five $50 Mastercard pre-paid vouchers.
“Council encourages all residents to take the time to complete the survey and help shape the future of kerbside waste services across the municipality,” Mr Rollinson said.
