Gannawarra Shire Council’s childhood immunisation rates continue to exceed national and Victorian averages.

Recently released National Immunisation Program data showed that as of 31 December 2020, all children living in the Gannawarra aged between 12 and 15 months and 60 and 63 months were fully immunised, with 96.43 per cent of children aged 24 to 27 months having full coverage against vaccine preventable diseases.

“Achieving a 100 per cent immunisation rate in two of the three immunisation age groups is a great result,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“These outstanding results have been achieved despite the COVID-19 pandemic, with immunisation services continuing to be delivered uninterrupted across the Gannawarra Shire.

“The results reflect the strong relationship Council maintains with families with children living across the Gannawarra Shire and our partnership with other local immunisation providers.”

Council’s public immunisation sessions are held at the Gannawarra Shire Children’s Centre on the first Wednesday of the month from 10.30am to 12 noon, as well as on the third Wednesday of the month between 4pm and 5.30pm.

Sessions at the Cohuna Maternal and Child Health Centre are held on the third Wednesday of the month from 10.30am to 12 noon.

To comply with COVID-19 restrictions, bookings must be made prior to attending Council immunisation sessions.

“Parents and guardians can keep up to date with their child’s immunisations due dates by checking their child’s green health record book, downloading the Victorian Government’s VaxOnTime app or by checking their MyGov account,” said Mr O’Reilly.
