Hell Ship... Showing Soon!
Media Release
Australian author, actor and broadcaster, Michael Veitch will perform his one man show ‘Hell Ship’ in Kerang on September 5.
Hell Ship tells the story of the clipper Ticonderoga who limped through the heads of Port Phillip Bay in 1852 after a nightmare voyage from Liverpool.
Manager of Libraries Kerri Sidorow said the one man show is a dramatic true story of one of Australia’s forgotten migrant and maritime tragedies, exploring on-board tales of love, loss and survival.
“For more than a century the tale of the plagued Ticonderoga, has been passed down through Michael Veitch's family,” said Mrs Sidorow.
“James William Henry Veitch, the ship's assistant surgeon on his first voyage, aided by female passenger Annie Morrison worked tirelessly in an attempt to save the lives of the 800 sick passengers,” explained Mrs Sidorow.
“This story is told from the perspective of James, who is the actors Great-great grandfather and takes the audience on quite a journey.”
To complement the performance author and performer Michael Veitch will be holding a free talk ‘Find the story in your facts’ at the Sir John Gorton Library at 10.30am on September 5.
“Michael will inspire you to research your family history and will help you to discover a story that you can share,” said Mrs Sidorow.
Hell Ship is showing at the Kerang Memorial Hall 7.30pm on Wednesday September 5, 2018.
Adults tickets $25, concession $20.
Bookings for the performance show and free library talk are available via
