Garden Park jetty construction begins

Construction of Cohuna’s newest tourist attraction – a jetty on the banks of Gunbower Creek at Garden Park – will begin on Monday, 7 March.

One of the highlights of the Cohuna Waterfront Development – Stage 2, the jetty will provide greater opportunities for visitors to Garden Park to get closer to Gunbower Creek.

“Just like the pontoons located at Cohuna Beach, this new space will be an area where residents and visitors can relax and take in the picturesque setting that Garden Park offers,” Gannawarra Shire Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Whether it is fishing or a quiet place to eat, this location aims to build on the transformation of Cohuna, evident by work completed with Apex Park as Stage 1 of this important project.”

The jetty will be connected to King George Street via a new pathway through Garden Park, with work on an adjoining dedicated outdoor dining area on the Garden Park side of the town’s pedestrian crossing to begin on Monday, 14 March.

The construction of a similar dedicated outdoor dining area outside the Bower Tavern recently began (above) and is on track for completion by the end of the next week.

Meanwhile, work to construct a seating area at the intersection of King George and Sampson streets is nearing completion, with new furniture to be installed next week.

“This section, funded by the Federal Government’s Murray–Darling Basin Economic Development Program, will create a new space where residents can enjoy something to eat or drink from one of Cohuna’s many traders,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Council thanks residents, business owners and visitors for their patience as these works occur, which are scheduled for completion by April 2022.”

Stage 2 of the Cohuna Waterfront Development is part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Connections Project and is supported by the State Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package.
