Numerous events will be held at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library throughout February as part of the Gannawarra Library Service’s Library Lovers’ Month celebrations.

Seven events will be held at the library and at The Glasshouse from 3-24 February to support the Australian Library and Information Association initiative.

“Library Lovers’ Month celebrate the important role that libraries play in enriching our communities and promoting access to information for all,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Our library branches offer more than just access to books, magazines and DVDs. They provide a vital service for residents wanting to connect and a place for people to socialise.”

As part of the celebrations, after school craft activities will be held from 3.30pm Tuesdays each week during February. Activities scheduled as part of the program include creating bird feeders on 3 February, bookmarks on 10 February, paper flowers on 17 February and strawberry pompoms on 24 February.

The library service is partnering with the University of Canberra to host a Stay Smart Online workshop on Tuesday, 10 February from 1.30pm. This one-hour session will provide those attending with tip and tricks to help stay safe when using the internet or apps.

In honour of Valentine’s Day, a special evening incorporating selecting books using a speed-dating format will occur on Thursday, 12 February at 7.30pm. This event, which also includes a light supper, will enable attendees to spend five minutes with a selection of books, then identifying which books they would like to borrow in the future.

The celebrations wrap up on Tuesday, 24 February with an Author Talk session with Geoff Parkes. This special evening, occurring from 7pm, will enable people to get to know Geoff, who is the author When the Deep Dark Bush Swallows You Whole and The First Law of the Bush, and his influences.

All events are free, with bookings essential. To book you place, phone (03) 5452 1546.
