Gannawarra Fire Danger Period Announced

Media Release

The CFA has announced the Fire Danger Period for Gannawara Shire will commence at 1:00am Monday October 15, 2018.

Mayor Brian Gibson said the CFA declares the Fire Danger Period for each municipality in the lead up to the fire season.

“The dates for the Fire Danger Period depend on the amount of rain, grassland curing rate and other local conditions,” explained Mayor Gibson.

“During the Fire Danger Period you cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements.”

“If you don’t obtain a permit you could be breaking the law and may be prosecuted,” added Mayor Gibson.”

Information regarding permits to burn during the Fire Danger Period can be obtained through the CFA.

For burn-offs prior to, and after, the declared Fire Danger Period, you must ensure you comply with Gannawarra Shire Council Local Laws, and always register your burn with VicFire on 1800 668 511.

“In addition to the Fire Danger Period, separate Total Fire Ban declarations can be made which will mean no fires can be lit for the declared district for that day,” explained Mayor Gibson.

“This is irrespective of whether the Fire Danger Period has been introduced in a municipality or not.”

The Fire Danger Period in Gannawarra is scheduled to remain in place until 1 May 2019 unless otherwise stated by the CFA.
