First stage of Safer Local Roads Program works completed

Pedestrians and motorists are benefiting from the completion of two road safety improvement projects located near two of Kerang’s primary schools.
As part of the works, made possible thanks to the Victorian Government through the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, speed reduction measures are now in place along Wyndham Street, Kerang, either side of Victoria Street, and improvements have been made to the Boundary Street, Kerang school crossing.
“Council thanks the Transport Accident Commission and Department of Transport and Planning for providing funding via its Safer Local Roads and Streets Program to improve the safety of Council-managed roads in the municipality,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
Thanks to the improvements, pedestrians crossing Wyndham Street via Victoria Street will be able to do so via a dedicated path.
Meanwhile, pedestrians using the Boundary Street school crossing will benefit from works to increase the crossing’s height, improving visibility for users of the popular area.
“Council was mindful of reducing disruption for schoolchildren and motorists, particularly during a busy time of year for the Gannawarra. Works were staged where possible, with some completed during the school term and others occurring over the school holidays, subject to contractor availability,” Mr Rollinson said.
“Council thanks motorists and pedestrians for their understanding as these improvements occurred,” Mr Rollinson said.
