Gannawarra Shire Council would like to inform residents of a change in the process for renewal of disabled parking permits.

Council’s Director Infrastructure and Development Geoff Rollinson said that a few components of renewing permits have changed.

"In the past Category 1 (blue) permits may have been issued to applicants who have not met the required criteria. Therefore some changes have been made to the renewal process."

"Application and eligibility criteria are contained in the Code for the Disabled Persons Parking Scheme (Roads Corporation) which is administered by municipal Councils in accordance with the guidelines in the Code," Mr Rollinson explains.

The following changes have been made

Renewal application contains a section to be completed by a medical practitioner. This is to ensure that applicants will be issued with the correct type of permit, depending on their disability.

Applicants may receive a Category 2 (green) permit instead of a Category 1 (blue) permit.

A Category 1 (blue) permit entitles the permit holder to park in a disabled parking bay, or in any other parking bay for twice the amount of time shown on the sign.

A Category 2 (green) permit allows the permit holder to park in any other parking bay for twice the amount of time shown on the sign. Additional information will be contained with the permit when issued.
