Renowned Australian comedian and actor, Damian Callinan returns to the Gannawarra next month as part of his tour celebrating the iconic community icon – the town hall.
As part of his Hall Stories tour, the creator of the hit Netflix movie, The Merger will celebrate the importance of the Lake Charm and Murrabit halls with each community during two shows supported by Gannawarra Shire Council.
“Council is pleased to welcome Damian back to the Gannawarra with his Hall Stories tour,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.
“Thanks to his previous shows in the area, his appearances in The Merger and The Newsreader and his Melbourne Comedy Festival performances, Damian is renowned for his comedic and storytelling skills.”
The Hall Stories tour celebrates the quirks, traditions and characters of Australian halls and meeting places, with each show to include local stories about each venue. Damian will be spending time in each community and meeting local historians, community members and the respective hall committees gathering stories, anecdotes and imagery to develop each show.
"The Lake Charm Hall Committee is proud is to be included in the Hall Stories program with Damian Callinan. It will be a great community event to recognise and appreciate the hall being the backdrop for so many different events, gatherings and celebrations over its 134-year history," Lake Charm Hall Committee’s Fiona Copland said.
“With the centenary of our hall coming up, we’re thrilled to have Damian Callinan’s Hall Stories coming to Murrabit. There are so many great memories and amazing yarns connected to our hall, and to have Damian bring them back to life for us to share and enjoy will be a wonderful experience,” Murrabit Hall Committee President, Neil Hopkins said.
Hall Stories will be performed at the Lake Charm Hall on Tuesday, 21 October from 6.30pm and at the Murrabit Hall on Thursday, 23 October from 6.30pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for concession, which includes supper after each show. Those attending can also bring their own nibbles and refreshments.
