The release of Council’s 2024/2025 Proposed Budget for community feedback was the highlight of Gannawarra Shire Council’s April 2024 meeting, held at the Cohuna Community Meeting Room on Wednesday, 17 April 2024.
Residents can view the 2024/2025 Proposed Budget online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/budget or at Council’s Customer Service Centres at Cohuna and Kerang, with feedback accepted up to 5pm Thursday, 16 May.
Key features of the 2024/2025 Proposed Budget include a $22.862 million investment in capital works and an increase in revenue raised through municipal rates revenue that complies with the State Government’s Fair Go Rates System.
The meeting also saw the endorsement of community feedback to be sought regarding the Draft Gannawarra Shire Onsite Wastewater Management Plan 2024-2029, with feedback to be accepted up to 5pm Thursday, 16 May.
Last reviewed in 2020, the draft document assists Council’s Environmental Health Officers to fulfil their delegated responsibilities in the assessment of domestic wastewater systems operating, or intending to be installed, within the municipality and to provide appropriate strategies and actions to manage issues relating to onsite wastewater management.

Other outcomes of the meeting included:
- Endorsing the reviewed Laneways policy;
- Adopting remuneration paid to Audit and Risk Committee chairman and independent members for attending meetings;
- Seeking community feedback regarding proposed changes to the reviewed Flags policy and a request from Northern District Community Health for Council to fly the Rainbow Flag on Council-owned flagpoles on Friday, 17 May for the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex discrimination, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) annually from 2025, with feedback to be accepted up to 5pm Thursday, 16 May; and
- Appointing Jarrah O’Shae as an independent member of Council’s Audit and Risk Committee for a three-and-a-half-year term, expiring September 2027, and reappointing Francis Crawley as an independent member for a further three-year term, expiring April 2027.
Two questions from the public, focusing on drainage improvements and repairs to infrastructure damaged during the 2022 floods, were addressed.
