COVIDsafe events will be held throughout the Gannawarra this October as Gannawarra Shire Council and local community services unite to celebrate the Victorian Seniors Festival Reimagined 2021.

Now in its 39th year, the Victorian Seniors Festival celebrates the role Victorians aged 60 years and older play in the community.

“Although COVID-19 restrictions in place at this time mean that popular events held previously cannot proceed, this year’s celebrations provide something for everyone,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Council is pleased to be partnering with local Neighbourhood Houses and Men’s Shed for these events, which are supported by the re-Connect with your Gannawarra program.”

As part of the festival, two special events will be held – a bus trip to Tree Tops Scout Camp with guest speaker Aunty Esther Kirby on Tuesday, 19 October, and a lunch on Thursday, 28 October at the Cohuna Memorial Hall Supper Room with the Commissioner for Senior Victorians, Gerard Mansour.

Other events planned across the four-week festival include open days at local Men’s Sheds, a Book Chat session at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library and an Active Minds Morning.

“It is important to note that the events are subject to COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time, so please check with the event’s hosts closer to the date of the scheduled event for confirmation of details,” Mr O’Reilly said.
