Celebrate Australia Day 2026 in the Gannawarra
Published on 12 January 2026
Celebrations will be held throughout the Gannawarra on Monday, 26 January to mark Australia Day.
Gannawarra Shire Council is supporting community groups hosting celebrations at Barham/Koondrook, Cohuna, Kerang, Lake Charm, Leitchville, Murrabit and Quambatook, with funding to be provided to event hosts to make these festivities possible.
“Australia Day is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to the area during the Australia Day long weekend to come together and celebrate,” Mayor Garner Smith said.
Celebrations will include a breakfast or barbecue dinner, depending on the time of day, a flag raising ceremony and recognition of community award winners.
Council’s 2026 Citizen of the Year and Young Person of the Year will also be recognised at their local celebration, with a Civic Reception announcing the winners of these prestigious accolades occurring on Wednesday, 21 January.
