Gannawarra Shire Council will continue to host Australian Citizenship ceremonies, with four events scheduled for 2026.

The schedule of ceremonies was approved at the December 2025 Council Meeting, with ceremonies scheduled for the following dates:

  • Monday, 26 January from 9am, occurring as part of Kerang’s Australia Day celebrations.
  • Monday, 20 April at 6pm, occurring at The Glasshouse, Kerang.
  • Monday, 27 July at 6pm, occurring at The Glasshouse, Kerang.
  • Monday, 19 October at 6pm, occurring at The Glasshouse, Kerang.

“Council is honoured to play a role in the journey many of our residents take to become an Australian citizen,” Mayor Garner Smith said.

Council held three Australian Citizenship ceremonies during 2025, which marked the culmination of eight residents’ journeys to becoming Australian citizens.

“An Australian Citizenship ceremony not only enables citizenship candidates to receive their Certificate of Australian Citizenship, but it also fulfils the requirements under Australian citizenship law and provides an opportunity for Gannawarra Shire Council to officially welcome its new citizens.”
