Published on 21 November 2023
Gannawarra Shire Council will continue to host Australian Citizenship ceremonies, with four events scheduled for 2024.
The schedule of ceremonies was approved at the November 2024 Council Meeting, with ceremonies scheduled for the following dates:
- Friday, 26 January
- Tuesday, 2 April
- Tuesday, 2 July
- Tuesday, 8 October
“Council is honoured to play a role in the journey many of our residents take to become an Australian citizen,” Mayor Ross Stanton said.
“This year alone Council has helped 17 residents become Australian citizens, with these ceremonies special occasions for our newest citizens, their family members and friends.”
Citizenship ceremonies held on 26 January will coincide with Australia Day celebrations planned for the Gannawarra, with one-off events to be held on the remaining dates scheduled for 2024.
“An Australian Citizenship ceremony not only enables citizenship candidates to receive their Certificate of Australian Citizenship, it also fulfils the requirements under Australian citizenship law and provides an opportunity for Gannawarra Shire Council to officially welcome its new citizens,” Mayor Stanton said.
