2019 Australia Day community celebrations

Gannawarra Shire Council is encouraging residents to celebrate Australia Day at a number of community events on Saturday, January 26.

 

Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said a number of guest speakers will visit community events across the Shire to celebrate the occasion.

 

“Breakfast celebrations have been planned across communities within the Gannawarra Shire, as well as one evening celebration in Leitchville,” Mayor Learmonth said.

 

“Australia Day is a day to come together and celebrate our achievements, acknowledge our shared history and recognise our country's cultural diversity.”

Koondrook/Barham: Riverside Park Barham, 7.00am with guest speaker Marilyn Harper

Kerang: Atkinson Park, 7.30am with guest speaker Damian Brown

Cohuna: Garden Park, 8.00am with guest speaker Alma Besserdin

Murrabit: Murrabit Market Lions Shelter, 8.00am with guest speaker Celeste Peirce

Lalbert: Lalbert Community Park, 8.30am with guest speaker Aris Imbardelli

Quambatook: Quambatook Memorial Hall, 8.30am with guest speaker Professor Bruce Bonyhady

Leitchville: Leitchville Sporting Complex, 6.30pm with guest speaker Alma Besserdin

“Nominees and winners of the Gannawarra Shire Council Australia Day awards will be announced at a civic ceremony to be held on the evening of Wednesday, January 23,” Mayor Learmonth said.
