Discussions regarding the proposed design of Cohuna’s All Abilities Adventure Playground are continuing, with feedback welcomed up to 5pm Friday, 5 February.

To be constructed south of the current playground at Apex Park, the new playground will complement improvements to Apex Park completed recently, including the creation of Cohuna Beach, development of new barbecue areas and the installation of shelters.

“Late last year Council was pleased to work with the project’s architect and the community to gather ideas regarding this new space, with the proposed design celebrating Cohuna’s links to the agricultural sector in a manner which people of all abilities can enjoy,” Gannawarra Shire Council Acting Chief Executive Officer, Stacy Williams said.

“Key features of the proposed design include a stand-up see saw that pumps water into a water channel, a three-storey play area designed as an old farm shack, climbing areas and flying fox, all located along a pathway that replicates Gunbower Creek.

“All abilities features incorporated into the proposed design include a triple swing, carousel, in-ground trampoline, roller spinner and an accessible harness seat on the flying fox.”

Residents can view the proposed design and have their say on what features they like and what other features need to be included at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/CohunaPlayground

“All feedback received will assist with the playground’s final design, with construction to start later this year,” Mrs Williams said.

The current playground at Apex Park will remain in place during the construction of the Cohuna All Abilities Playground, but will be removed once this project is complete.

“Council appreciates and congratulates the efforts of the Cohuna Playgroup in fundraising and seeking support from the Cohuna and District Progress Association, Lions Club of Cohuna, Apex Club of Cohuna and other community donations to support the construction of the current playground, opened in 2003, which has seen years of enjoyment by local and visiting children and their families,” Mrs Williams said.

The Cohuna All Abilities Adventure Playground forms part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Connections project, supported by the State Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package.
