Media Release

Tenders have been awarded for the construction of glamping tents and a footbridge as part of the Nature Based Tourism Hub project at Koondrook.

Director Infrastructure and Development Geoff Rollinson said the tender of the footbridge was awarded to Maritime Constructions, who built the award winning Koondrook Wharf.

“The footbridge will be designed by world renowned architect Terroir using the same style and materials as the Koondrook Wharf,” said Mr Rollinson.

“Six safari style glamping tents will be the centre piece of the tourism hub with a combination of layouts catering for 2 to 4 people.”

The glamping tents will be constructed by GlamXperience who specialise in the construction of luxury style tents and containers.

“Each of the six glamping tents will feature an ensuite, kitchenette, dishwasher, split system heating and cooling,” explained Mr. Rollinson. “Each tent will also have a private deck with views of the Gunbower Creek.”

The footbridge and glamping site will be located on the Gunbower Creek just off Tramway Place and Gunbower Parade at Koondrook.

“Council anticipates that construction will commence later this year with completion early to mid-2019,” added Mr Rollinson.

The $1.2 million dollar Koondrook Nature Based Tourism Hub project is backed by $800,000 grant funding from Regional Development Victoria.

Tenders for the management and operation of the glamping tents will be publicly advertised in the coming months.
