JULY SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM HOSTED BY GANNAWARRA LIBRARY SERVICE
Media Release

These school holidays the Gannawarra Library Service is offering some exceptional art projects as well as a special ‘Robot Zoo’ program where children will be able to make their own moving animals out of Lego Technic!

Manager Library Services Kerri Sidorow said the program caters for a range of ages and interests.

“The theme of the upcoming School Holiday program is ‘Wonderful Workshops’ and we have put together a program of activities that will see children able to expand their creative mind and learn new skills in mosaics, crochet and applique!” Ms Sidorow explains.

To complement the upcoming Youth Arts Festival, the library service has brought in the assistance of renowned local art teacher Shelley Mitchell to run a selection of art workshops suitable for children aged seven and above.  In a two hour session, children will be able to create their own beautiful mosaics or applique pillowcases with their own designs.

Library staff will also be hosting special crochet workshops that will be set out in two parts – the morning session will be a skills workshop, teaching the participants how to crochet small flowers and in the afternoon, the staff will be available for those who want to come back in the afternoon and practise, perhaps even making a headband or other accessories out of their creations.  Wool and crochet hooks will be provided and the hook is our gift to you.

In conjunction with Arts and Culture, we hope to have lots of people come along to use both their imagination and design skills at our ‘Robot Zoo’ lego workshops, taking place in both Cohuna and Kerang.  Replicas of creatures including fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, crustaceans, insects and birds will be created in this very special visual communication event!

“All activities are free and have limited capacity so we encourage people to sign up today so you don’t miss out on your spot in these wonderfully creative workshops,” Ms Sidorow said.
