Councillor Learmonth elected as Mayor

COUNCILLOR LEARMONTH ELECTED AS MAYOR, COUNCILLOR GILLINGHAM DEPUTY

Councillor Lorraine Learmonth has been elected as Gannawarra Shire Council Mayor for a one year term at a Special Meeting of Council held in Kerang.

Councillor Learmonth will replace Councillor Brian Gibson who has stood as Mayor for the past two years.

Councillor Charlie Gillingham was elected Deputy Mayor, replacing Councillor Learmonth.

Mayor Learmonth was first elected to Council in 2012 and represents the Yarran Ward.

On acceptance, Councillor Learmonth thanked her fellow Councillors for their support and trust in her ability to lead the Council in the coming year.

“I look forward to continuing working with my fellow Councillors, Council staff and the community over the next 12 months to make our Shire a great place to live, work and play,” Mayor Learmonth said.

During her term as Mayor, Councillor Learmonth’s focus is on continuing to implement the Council Plan, advocating for a range of different issues impacting the Shire and building opportunities.

“As mayor I will advocate for farmers, small businesses and support for those struggling as well as more mental health options in our area. I will advocate for more train services from Swan Hill and Bendigo to improve connectivity in the area.”

Deputy Mayor Gillingham was first elected to Council in 2016 and has served as a Councillor for the Avoca Ward.

Deputy Mayor Gillingham’s vision is to implement the Council Plan which he believes is pivotal to the future direction of Gannawarra Shire Council.

“I will continue to work with my fellow Councillors on implementing the Council Plan as well as encouraging new businesses, residential opportunities and tourism ventures,” Cr Gillingham said.
