With the Easter long weekend and ANZAC Day public holidays occurring in the space of eight days this April, Gannawarra Shire Council residents are reminded that Council officers are available after-hours to deal with emergencies.

“Council officers can be contacted after normal business hours, during weekends and days declared as public holidays to deal with emergencies within the Gannawarra,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Emergencies are classified as wayward stock wandering on roads within the Shire, as well as any animal attack in progress.

“All other enquiries will be noted and responded to on the next available business day.”

Residents are encouraged to assist in ensuring after-hour emergencies are kept to a minimum.

“Pet owners can assist by ensuring their animals are securely confined on their property. This can be achieved by checking that animals cannot dig under, push through or jump over fencing, and that gates are secure,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“Landowners can play a role in ensuring livestock do not roam by ensuring fences on their property are in an adequate condition and feed is available.”

Council’s after-hour emergency control number is 0428 500 212.
