Big Summer Read
The Big Summer Read is back for 2025-2026!
It’s a great way for kids to stay connected with books during the holidays. Online registration is open now, giving families a simple way to join from home. The challenge encourages children to read regularly, explore new stories, and build confidence in their reading. It’s not just about ticking off titles—it’s about enjoying the journey, discovering favourite authors, and keeping minds active while school’s out.
One parent with one membership can manage all their children's entries online here, or paper forms are available in-branch (just make sure all are returned to us by February 9, 2026).
All children need to do to gain an entry is read or listen to 5 books, and/or read or listen to a book on 5 separate days (five books = 1 entry, ten = 2 entries etc.).
To help encourage reading there's some great prizes up for grabs, nationally and statewide -
National Prizes
- 0-4 years: Picture Book Bundle Pack
- 5-8 years: Books and Activity Pack
- 9-12 years: Bluetooth Headphones
- 13-18 years: Kobo eReader
Statewide Prizes
- 0-4 years: Book Pack + Zoos Victoria Membership
- 5-8 years: Book Pack + Zoos Victoria Membership
- 9-12 years: Book Pack + Zoos Victoria Membership
- 13-18 years: Book Pack + Zoos Victoria Membership
And, every child who enters online and lists a Gannawarra branch as their local library, or who enters via paper forms, is eligible to enter our 'Gannawarra Library Service Members Only Competition' (children must be active members with us to win).
0 - 4 years $30 voucher
5 – 8 years - $50 voucher
9 – 12 years - $75 voucher
13 – 18 years - $100

Come along after school for an hour of fun creating Lego masterpieces!

Books on Wheels
Books on Wheels delivers books, magazines, audio books and DVDs to people who are unable to access the library themselves.
To register for the Books on Wheels contact the Sir John Gorton Library on (03) 5452 1546.
Once registered, a library staff member will contact the participant to get to know them and gain
an understanding of the types of resources they would like to receive and arrange delivery.
