The standards Gannawarra Shire Council uses to inspect, maintain and repair its local road network will be guided by its updated Road Management Plan.

Councillors adopted the updated version of the plan at its October meeting, completing a process that is required every four years.

The document applies to Council’s road network, which included more than 500 kilometres of sealed roads and over 1,900 kilometres of gravel and earthen roads. It does not apply to roads that are under the Department of Transport and Planning’s control, such as state highways and arterial roads, and excludes unconstructed ‘paper’ roads that exist only on a plan.

“Our residents travel on at least one Council-managed road each day, whether it is to travel to work, buy groceries or attending community events,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“It is important that these roads are maintained to ensure that residents and visitors can travel throughout the municipality safely, that freight and produce can be moved, and people can keep connected with employers, education providers and community services.”

The updated version of the plan strengthens legislative references, updates inspection and intervention processes, and aligns with updated Local Laws and best practice asset management.

“Council thanks all residents who took the time to review the document when a 28-day engagement period occurred during August and September, and we look forward to working with residents to maintain our roads during the next four years,” Mr Rollinson said.
