Historical fictional author coming to the Gannawarra

The Gannawarra Library Service’s popular Author Talks series will return next month when Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library hosts a session with renowned historical fictional author, Caroline Beecham.

The author of Maggie’s Kitchen, Elenor’s Secret, Finding Eadie, When We Meet Again and Esther’s Children, Caroline will speak about her career and inspirations during the Author Talks session on Saturday, 4 March at 10.30am.

“Caroline is renowned for her passion for telling stories inspired by real events, and highlighting the achievements of pioneering women,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Rollinson said.

“Caroline’s debut novel, Maggie’s Kitchen, was shortlisted for Booktopia’s Best Historical Fiction in 2016 and nominated as Book of the Year, and Caroline as Best New Author, by AusRom Today. This recognition has inspired her future works and a growing fanbase.”

Caroline will talk about her latest novel, Esther’s Children, a World War Two love story inspired by the extraordinary life of Esther Simpson.

“Esther worked for the Society for the Protection of Science and Learning, a British organization that in the 1930s and 1940s helped to rescue thousands of academics and scholars of Jewish ancestry from the Nazis, by helping them find employment in Britain and other safe countries,” Mr Rollinson said.

“Amazingly, 16 of the children rescued by the organisation went on to become Nobel Prize winners.”
