The popular Warra Waders swimming program, based at the Kerang Exercise Pool, will resume classes at the start of Term 2, 2020.

Designed for children aged six months to seven years of age, the program uses routines, songs and equipment such as aquatic dumbbells and noodles to assist participants to become independent in the water.

“Unfortunately the program will not be operating during the first school term of 2020 as Council has been unable to secure a qualified instructor for Term 1, 2020,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“However, the postponement of the program enables organisers to enact upon feedback provided by previous participants and ensure all is in readiness when the first sessions occur later in the year.”

A number of changes will be implemented when the program resumes on 14 April 2020. These include:

  • A more structured lesson program, focusing on educating a number of fundamental skills;
  • The implementation of a report card system, with all participants to receive an update on their performance at the end of each school term; and
  • Plans for additional lesson times.

A new payment structure will also be offered – a full-term enrolment, available at a cost of $9 per session; and a four-session pass, costing $10 per session.

“Learning to swim is an important life skill, especially with the number of rivers, lakes and waterways throughout the Gannawarra,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“I encourage families throughout the Gannawarra to consider enrolling their children for this program.”
