Residents and visitors to the Gannawarra are benefiting from the recent completion of the region’s first Changing Places facility.

Located at Kerang’s Atkinson Park, the new building provides suitable facilities for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets – including a height-adjustable adult-sized change table, ceiling track hoist system and a peninsular-structured toilet.

“Kerang is now one of more than 200 locations nationally and around 100 across Victoria to feature a Changing Places facility, which gives families the chance to participate in outings without anyone being excluded,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“This new facility will also open up the Gannawarra and the wider region to people of all abilities, which is a win-win for visitors and our local economy.”

Access to the Changing Places facility is available via a Master Locksmiths Access Key, which can be ordered by visiting http://masterlocksmiths.com.au/mlak. A key is also available from Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library during business hours.

“A Master Locksmiths Access Key also enables access to the liberty swing at the Koondrook All Abilities Playground, as well as all doors, toilets, playground equipment and other facilities nationally fitted with a lock that uses the special MLAK cylinder.”

The new facility also includes a public shower, which will cater for visitors accessing the park’s amenities.

The construction of the Changing Places facility formed part of the Sir John Gorton Precinct All Abilities Project, supported by a $1 million contribution from the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

“This project also included the construction of the Kerang All Abilities Play Space, which has proven to be a popular addition to Atkinson Park since its completion in early August,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Council thanks the State Government and Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp MP for their support for this important project.”
