The transformation of the Quambatook Weir Pool into a recreational oasis for residents and visitors is one step closer to completion.

Earthwork Civil & Constructions will oversee the Sustainable Recreation Water for Quambatook Project after being awarded the tender for the $1.53 million project.

Supported by a $2.05 million contribution from the State Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund, the project aims to improve amenity and liveability opportunities for Quambatook’s residents and visitors.

“Council is excited to see this project move closer to the construction stage,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.

“Quambatook’s residents have passionately advocated for this project, with Council playing a pivotal role in successfully securing State Government support for the transformation of the town’s weir pool.”

The project involves two elements – efforts to isolate the Avoca River’s flows at the Quambatook Weir Pool; and installing infrastructure that connects this popular waterspot to the Quambatook township.

“Controlling the flows into the Avoca River at the weir will enable visitors to this popular spot to benefit from the planned installation of a jetty and boat ramp, which will encourage increased aquatic recreational opportunities,” Mayor Gillingham said.

“The development of a five-kilometre walking trail and pedestrian bridge crossing over the Avoca River between the township and the weir will enable visitors to experience the river’s natural beauty and provide greater active recreational options.”

Council will keep residents updated regarding the progress of the Sustainable Recreational Water for Quambatook Project via its website, Facebook page, Gannawarra News and Gannawarra Connect.
