Renowned performer, Jude Perl's return to the Gannawarra headlines Creative Gannawarra's 2023 program of events.

Planning is underway for next year’s program of events for the Gannawarra’s creative community, with three performances to occur alongside workshops and exhibitions.

“It was great to see the return of performances to the Gannawarra following two years of interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“To have the likes of renowned Aboriginal singer and songwriter, Kutcha Edwards, children’s performers The Listies and Mama Kin Spender, featuring ARIA-nominated performer, Danielle Caruana and producer Dingo Spender, perform in the Gannawarra this year and attract large crowds highlights the importance of bringing creative entertainers to the Gannawarra.

“Creative Gannawarra’s 2023 program is no exception, as it builds on the success of 2022 and looks to bring creative experiences to locations throughout the municipality.”

Three performances are planned for 2023, headlined by the return visit of award-winning singer and songwriter, Jude Perl to bring a yet to be determined show to Kerang on Friday, 3 March.

“Jude’s last visit to the Gannawarra was in 2021 for her I Have A Face tour, which sold out and gained a large audience online thanks to Council’s decision to livestream the performance,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“If I Have A Face is anything to go by, Jude’s show will have audience members laughing, crying and singing.”

National Reconciliation Week celebrations across the Gannawarra will be boosted by a performance from Dhungala Baarka in May, with a date and venue to be announced in early 2023.

“A collaboration between songwomen Nancy Bates and Allara Briggs Pattison, who met as band members for Uncle Archie Roach in 2016, Dhungala Baarka blend instrumentation and poetry to explore songlines belonging to the Yorta Yorta and Barkindji rivers, known as the Murray Darling,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Dhungala Baarka have performed at various festivals throughout South Australia, including at this year’s WOMADelaide festival, and we look forward to to Nancy and Allara coming to the Gannawarra in 2023.”

Creative Gannawarra’s 2023 program will finish on 6 October at Kerang with Petit Circus’ latest show, Bon Appetit.

“Set in a restaurant full of food and kitchen related circus skills, Bon Appetit will appeal to people of all ages thanks to its fun food-themed acrobatics, aerials, juggling, musical comedy and more, ” Mr O’Reilly said.
