Gannawarra Shire Council continues to maintain childhood immunisation rates that exceed national and Victorian averages.

Recently released National Immunisation Program data showed that as of 31 March 2019, 97.63 per cent of children under the age of five years and three months living in the Gannawarra Shire were fully immunised. This exceeds the Victorian average of 94.13 per cent and the Australian average of 93.60 per cent.

One hundred per cent of children living in Gannawarra Shire aged between 24 and 27 months were fully immunised, with the 12-15 month (96.88 per cent) and 60-63 month (96 per cent) both exceeding the national and Victorian averages.

Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said that Council places a significant focus on assisting families to access timely immunisation for their children.

“Council’s efforts in continuing to maintain immunisation rates that are above the national and Victorian average reflect the genuine and sustained effort across Council’s Community Health, Maternal and Child Health and Children Service teams,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“The results also reflect the strong relationship we maintain with local families with children and our partnership with other local health providers.”

Parents and guardians can keep up to date with when their child’s immunisations are due by checking their child’s green health book and downloading the Victorian Government’s VaxOnTime app or by checking their MyGov account.
