Residents are encouraged to play a role in shaping the latest version of the Gannawarra Shire Council Plan and the Gannawarra’s longer term Community Vision.

The revision of the Gannawarra Shire Council Plan, undertaken every four years, enables residents to identify what they like most about where they live, what challenges the community faces, what services are needed and what should be Council’s focus during the next 15 years.

“The Council Plan is the most important document Council develops each Council term, as it acts as a ‘road map’ to focus Council’s activities and subsequent achievements during the next four years, whilst the Community Vision will help shape the longer term direction of the Gannawarra,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.

“Community input is pivotal in the preparation of both the Council Plan and Community Vision, to ensure that each strategic plan represents the current and future opportunities for our region. These provide guidance to Council when seeking funding for projects and initiatives, or advocating the needs of the Gannawarra to the State and Federal governments.”

Residents can have their say online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/CouncilPlan between 21 January and 13 February. Feedback can also be provided at Council’s Customer Service Centres in Cohuna and Kerang.

Community sessions will also be held during the engagement period, where residents can engage with Councillors and Council staff. The first of these sessions will be held on the following dates:

  • Thursday, 21 January – Lake Charm Hall (3.30pm-5.30pm)
  • Wednesday, 27 January – Cohuna CBD (10.30am-12 noon) and Apex Park, Cohuna (3.30pm-5pm)
  • Friday, 29 January – Quambatook Community Resource Centre (10am-12 noon)
  • Tuesday, 2 February – Victoria Square, Kerang (10am-12 noon) and Gannawarra Shire Children’s Centre, Kerang (3.30pm-5.30pm)
  • Thursday, 4 February – Leitchville Memorial Hall (1.30pm-3pm) and Leitchville Swimming Pool (4pm-6pm)
  • Saturday, 6 February – Victoria Square, Kerang (10am-12 noon) and Kerang Skate Park (1pm-2pm)

“Sessions are also planned for Koondrook, Lalbert and Murrabit. Details regarding times and locations of these sessions will be promoted online at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/CouncilPlan, via Council’s Facebook page and Gannawarra News,” Mayor Gillingham said.

“Conversation boards will also be available at Gannawarra Library Service’s Cohuna and Kerang branches, the Gannawarra Shire Children’s Centre waiting room and Neighbourhood Houses in Cohuna, Kerang and Quambatook, enabling residents to provide feedback at any time.

“All feedback received will assist with the development of the Draft Gannawarra Shire Council Plan 2021-2025, which Council will seek further community feedback on later this year.”
