Residents are encouraged to have their say on Gannawarra Shire Council’s Draft Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy, which provides Council with a strategic framework for mitigating and adapting to climate change.

Developed in partnership with industry consultants, community representatives and Councillors, the draft strategy will provide actions and set goals to assist Council achieving its goal of being a highly sustainable and resilient regional Council and a leading region for renewable energy and low carbon technology by 2040.

“In December 2021 Council adopted its Climate Change Policy, which commits Council to transition to 100 per cent renewable energy and corporate net zero emissions by 2025, and net zero emissions at Council-managed landfills by 2040,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.

“The Draft Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy establishes clear, concise and actionable plans across the short, medium and long term to guide Council towards achieving its climate vision.

“Whilst focusing on Council’s own operations and service delivery, the Draft Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy also includes high level opportunities for Council to influence positive outcomes in the broader Gannawarra community.”

Residents can have their say on the Draft Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy by 2pm Friday, 23 December in the following ways:

“All feedback received during the community engagement period will assist with the development of the final version of Council’s Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Strategy, which will be presented to Council at a later date,” Mayor Gillingham said.
